You might think that you need all sorts of sophisticated tools and equipment in order to make any repairs to your Xbox 360 unit no matter what goes wrong. Most people think this way, but in this article I am going to explain the truth.
For the most part you are only going to need a couple of different types of screwdrivers (both Phillips head and Flat head), different types of screws, an Allen Wrench or two and a few other things that are pretty simple to get.
Power Screwdriver
One of the most common tools that you are going to need is a screwdriver or two.
There are two different types of screwdrivers that are commonly used: Phillips Head which is the one that looks like a star (or "x") depending upon your point-of-view and the Flat Head (whose name speaks for itself).
These two are going to be the ones that you will use the most.
For the most part, you will be using a screwdriver for most of the repairs that you will need to make.
Almost everything on the Xbox 360 is screwed together.
This brings us to the next tool that is necessary are the screws that hold the exterior casing and interior components together. There are several different sizes and strengths of Screws that the Xbox 360 uses in order to keep the exterior case, the Motherboard as well as the Power board that keeps the whole thing powered and running properly.
You also need to have some longer Heatsink Screws on hand in case you need to replace one of them.
Sometimes there is nothing more frustrating that needing to have a certain size screw and not having it on hand to work with. You might also need to have a tool on hand that looks a lot like an Allen Wrench that is specifically designed for the Xbox 360.
This tool is not the expensive to get and not exactly that difficult to understand how to use. You also need to know that the tools that you are using and depending on are going to last and not break off while you are in the middle of a repair.
Having a tool break on you in the middle of a repair job is not what you want or need. There are going to be times that you might need to replace the Laser Lens, the main Power Cord/Supply, a Ribbon Cable and/or the DVD-ROM Drive itself.
You need to remember that these things are going to break down eventually and will need to be replaced.
There are certain signs that you will need to look for that will tell you whether you need to buy a brand new Laser Lens or DVD-ROM drive. If you simply cannot get the DVD Drive to read the disc that you put in because it simply is not able to read the disc or the DVD Drive is completely shot.
These are things that aren't catastrophes, just annoying.
